ABOUT / QUIÉN SOY

Iván Maceda is a Mexican-born classical guitarist, mariachi performer, and music educator whose work bridges performance, teaching, and community leadership. Based in Bloomington, Indiana, Iván studied at the Escuela Nacional de Música (UNAM) and the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he completed advanced training in performance and Music Education.

For over two decades, Iván has worked across diverse educational and cultural settings—universities, conservatories, community centers, and private studios—promoting music as a tool for growth, inclusion, and cultural pride.

He is the founder of the Indiana Mariachi Project, a nonprofit initiative expanding access to Mexican music throughout the

U.S. and Mariachi Internacional de Bloomington. His collaborators include:

SOUNDS (Ellettsville & Spencer, IN) – guitar instruction in rural communities
Community Pro-Education (Goshen, IN) – mariachi festival and student competition
El Sistema Indianapolis – music education with a social impact mission
Fundación Cultural Tequendama (Latin America) – artistic production and cultural programming
